UAE Small Business Relief 2026: Does Your Company Qualify for 0% Corporate Tax?
One of the most important — and most misunderstood — provisions of the UAE Corporate Tax law is Small Business Relief. If your business qualifies and you elect for it correctly, your Corporate Tax liability for the period is zero.
Here is everything UAE business owners need to know before the September 30, 2026 filing deadline.
What Is Small Business Relief?
Small Business Relief (SBR) is a UAE Corporate Tax provision that allows eligible businesses to be treated as having zero taxable income for a given tax period. It effectively means you pay no Corporate Tax — even if your business was profitable.
Who Qualifies?
To qualify for Small Business Relief for the tax period ending December 31, 2025, your business must meet ALL of the following:
- Revenue of AED 3 million or less in the tax period ending December 31, 2025
- Revenue of AED 3 million or less in ALL previous tax periods (2023 and 2024)
- The business must be a UAE resident taxable person
- You must actively elect for SBR on your Corporate Tax return — it is not automatic
Who Does NOT Qualify?
- Businesses that are part of a Multinational Enterprise (MNE) group with consolidated revenues above AED 3.15 billion
- Qualifying Free Zone Persons (QFZPs) — they have a separate 0% regime
- Businesses whose revenue exceeded AED 3M in any previous tax period
Important: It Must Be Elected — Not Assumed
This is the most common mistake UAE SMEs make. Small Business Relief is an election — you must tick the box on your EmaraTax CT return to claim it. If your accountant files your return without electing SBR and you would have qualified, you lose the relief for that period. There is no amendment mechanism that guarantees recovery.
What Counts as Revenue?
Revenue for SBR purposes means your gross income from all sources before any deductions — your top-line figure on your profit and loss statement. This includes:
- Sales revenue
- Service fees
- Rental income (if it is part of your business activity)
- Other operating income
Your Action Points Before September 30, 2026
- ✅ Check your total revenue for 2023, 2024, and 2025 — all three years must be AED 3M or below
- ✅ Confirm you are not part of an MNE group above the threshold
- ✅ Instruct your tax advisor to elect SBR on your CT return
- ✅ File before September 30, 2026 — even if your liability is zero, the return is still mandatory
